The third in our series of The Players desktop wallpapers is now available for download HERE!  This is Alex Puccio bouldering Dead Serious (v10) in Hueco Tanks, Texas. This photo was originally shot by Andy Mann, while shooting for our film The PlayersMarc Russo adapted the image to the grafiti style for the inside DVD packaging art. Then I addapted this art into the wallpaper! Be sure to check out Alex Puccio’s segment in The Players. I shot Alex as she crushed Trice V12 on Flagstaff Mountain, Colorado.  We then followed her on a quick one week trip to Hueco, where she did numerous V10’s, including Dead Serious and Power of Silence! Alex also put a really strong effort into Slashface V13, doing all the moves except for one! Help support our productions and pick up your copy of The Players today at www.BSProductions.us

The second wallpaper in my series from The Players is of Joe Kinder on Ghostdance V6 at the Millenium Boulder in Colorado. This boulder problem was not featured in the film, however, its graphic nature worked well for the grafiti style DVD cover and artwork. The photo, originally shot for the cover of Urban Climber, was applied to the 3d brickwall by using a combination of techniques in Illustrator, Photoshop, and Maya. This gave us a full 3d model of the wall for the films opening motion graphics. We then could apply different lighting affects and see how it looked on the wall. Maya is a pretty amazing program. Thanks to Marc Russo for graphics skills! I’ve taken the films cover art and adapted it into a downloadable desktop wallpaper. More wallpapers coming soon!

The new Urban Climber Photo Annual just dropped and I’m psyched to have my shot of Chris Sierzant rockin the cover! I shot this about a year ago during a long weekend trip to the South. In three days, we shot portraits for the cover of the UC Interview Issue, filmed the first ascent of the Ebola Project for MVM, shot photos of The Orb at Rocktown, Apes on Acid at Castle Rock, and some bouldering at Little Rock City (The Stone Fort).  Chris is always great to work with, as he puts in the extra effort needed to take the product to the next level. Puck up your copy of UC today!

To get this shot, we headed out to Little Rock City in Tennessee at about 6am to catch the early morning light. The sun was actually only lighting the tree in the background. I used two AB800’s to light Chris and the boulder, adding warming gels to balance the colors. I wanted to incorperate that colorful tree in the background, so I shot with a fisheye lens to bend the tree and frame the boulder. It’s always been cool to see my work on covers, but a photo annual cover has always been a goal. Its an issue all about what I do, photography. So having my shot represent the whole issue gets me psyched! I can’t wait to check out the rest of the issue!

In an effort to push myself and create images outside my comfort zone, I’ve started to work on a series of black and white portraits. This is a personal project that I’m working on, for the sole purpose of challenging myself creatively. I’ve been working on the post processing quite a bit, toying with textures and experimenting with different B&W conversions. All of these shots were taken with a 50mm lens at f/1.8, to give them an extremely shallow depth of field.  Everything is coming together and I’m finally beginning to get the look I had envisioned. Please let me know what you think, as this is a work in progress and your feedback will only make the collective set of images stronger!

This weekend, we had to change the name of the tour to the Stone Alliance Film Tour.  Turns out John Long and other early Stonemasters are working on a book with the same name, and we see no need to crowd the climbing arena. There’s plenty of creativity to go around.

The Stone Alliance Film Tour represents the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect that climbers have long shared with each other in our love of the natural world and the sport that connects us with it.  The Stone Alliance Film Tour is the cooperative effort of three great directors on three separate films.  We extend an open invitation to climbing filmmakers everywhere in future seasons.

Our premier shows will be held in Boulder, Co and Salt Lake City, Ut on March 11. We have a big schedule of additional shows all around the world to follow. Check www.StoneAllianceTour.com for showtimes and ticket info, as new shows are being added daily.

About a month ago, my wife and I took a trip to Europe, traveling through Southern France, Italy, Switzerland, and Paris. I was not working on this trip, but managed to stay creative. I’ve been working on my panoramas while traveling. Stitching 10 or 20 frames together creates a really unique look. In my opinion, it captures the feeling of being there, looking around, and taking it all in. I’m still working on perfecting the technique, but here are a few I like!

I guess its time to publicly announce a little project I have been working on the last few months. Later this week, I’ll be shipping off the master for a DVD called Rewind. The idea behind this is to flash into the past. I have a ton of old footage that has never found a home, so I thought I might as well put it out there! In addition to all the previously unreleased footage, Rewind will include highlights from all my past films. This DVD is PACKED with climbing. the coolest part about this project is the price. We’ll be selling it for only $14.99. Be sure to ask for it at your local shop in February or order online at www.BSProductions.us. We’ll be set up for preorders soon…

I’d like to give props to Matt Moore at MWMGraphics.com for designing the cover art. This project is so different from anything I’ve ever done, I wanted to do the same with the promotion and packaging. Matt killed it!

I have finally launched my new photo portfolio website over at BrianSolano.com. Big thanks to Sander at Digijoi for the site design. Its great to finally showcase my photos in a visually pleasing, large format, and functional site. One great feature is that the images all resize automatically to the size of your window! Check it out, click around, and please let me know what you think!
