In only a few days of filming, Daniel Woods crushed the boulders in Moe’s Valley! We were there to capture all the action, including a few V13 first ascents (Magic Touch and Escape Artist Low)! Moe’s Valley is a great sandstone bouldering area right outside of St. George, Utah. Only a few hours north of Vegas and a few hours south of Salt Lake. If you’re passing through on I-15, be sure to make some time to check it out! Or if you’re bouldering at Joe’s Valley and get snowed out, Moe’s will most likely have great conditions. The rock quality is some of the best I’ve seen and there are a range of problems for every ability. Here are a few screen shots from Daniel’s segment in The Players. Be sure to check out the DVD, available at www.ThePlayersMovie.com

The time has come. The Players is my latest film, featuring all of the major players in American rock climbing. Chris Sharma, Dave Graham, Lisa Rands, Ethan Pringle, Emily Harrington, Daniel Woods, Joe Kinder, Alex Puccio, and Chris Lindner. Last week, I recieved the finished product from the replicator and shipped out all Pre-Orders. Marc Russo did an amazing job with all the packaging art work! What a great feeling to finally hold these DVD’s in my hands after two years of hard work!

It’s been a while since I updated the blog with some of my photo work that has been recently published. That is because I have been working non stop on my current video project, The Players. Here are a few images from the climbing world that have made it out to the public!

First is an image from my trip to Vietnam with Joe Brooks and Chris Lindner. We were boating around Ha Long Bay looking for new deep water soloing. Amazing experience! As far as media goes, I was shooting video for Chris Lindner’s segment of The Players and photos for a story in Climbing Mag. The editors were nice enough to let me license an image to National Geographic Adventure before their story came out.

Second is a portrait I shot of Boulder’s Christian Griffith. CG is the owner of Verve, a climbing and yoga apparel company. He’s also one of the pioneers of modern sport climbing in the US! We shot this very quickly outside Verve’s shop in Boulder, Co. I used two Alien Bee 800’s to light the portrait, one to Christian’s right and one to the left. Check out the mag on newsstands now for CG’s full interview !

About a month ago, my wife and I took a trip to Europe, traveling through Southern France, Italy, Switzerland, and Paris. I was not working on this trip, but managed to stay creative. I’ve been working on my panoramas while traveling. Stitching 10 or 20 frames together creates a really unique look. In my opinion, it captures the feeling of being there, looking around, and taking it all in. I’m still working on perfecting the technique, but here are a few I like!

I have finally launched my new photo portfolio website over at BrianSolano.com. Big thanks to Sander at Digijoi for the site design. Its great to finally showcase my photos in a visually pleasing, large format, and functional site. One great feature is that the images all resize automatically to the size of your window! Check it out, click around, and please let me know what you think!

As most of you know, I spent a few weeks in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam last month with good friends Chris Lindner and Joe Brooks. We were exploring the bay for new rock to climb, shooting photos for a Climbing Magazine story, and filming for my new film The Players. I havne’t been able to share any of the good photos, as we have to keep them fresh and special for the magazine. Well, Chris has returned from the rest of his extended Asia trip and made a great post on his blog with some photos. Check it out HERE……

Our Vietnam trip is a wrap! I am currently at the Hanoi airport waiting to start the trip home to the US. Despite pirates in the bay and two typhoons, we managed to get some great climbing in. I am psyched to show off the footage in our new movie The Players. We also shot photos for an upcoming story about Vietnam Deep Water Soloing in Climbing Magazine. Ha Long Bay is a special place. More photos and stories coming soon…

Big thanks to our friends at Slopony Adventures! They hooked it up and showed us the best Ha Long Bay had to offer. We couldn’t have done it without them. If you are planning a trip out here, definitely connect with these guys. If you don’t, you’re totally blowing it!

Also, thanks to the whole crew. Chris Lindner, Joe Brooks, Erik from Slopony, our Captain, and all the Vietnamese people that have helped us out along the way!

I had a long layover in Taipei last night, so I got to spend the night in the city. I didn’t do much exploring, as I was exhausted from the days travel. I did get to snap some pics. It was a completely foreign world to me. But the 7-11 on the corner did take American dollars, which bought be breakfast! When traveling, familiar faces always make you feel a little more comfortable. Ahh, Starbucks…

I am in Vietnam now. Just met up with Chris and Joe. Updates coming soon….

Well the time has come. We’ve been planning this trip for several months now and tomorrow I take off for Ha Long Bay, Vietnam! The long trip there goes from Denver to LA to Taipei, to Hanoi, to Ha Long Bay! The boys at Slo Pony Adventures are going to be taking us on a deep water soloing, sport climbing, and bouldering adventure through this amazing country. I’ll be traveling with Chris Lindner and Joe Brooks, who are already over there scouting some things out.

This trip isn’t all play though. We will be shooting a story for Climbing Magazine and I’ll be shooting the first segment for my new film, The Players. We’ve been doing a lot of pre-production for The Players, but haven’t yet made any public announcments about it. All I can say now is that we’ll be shooting with the players of out sport, those who have been pushing the limits and have made a life of climbing! Pics from vietnam coming as often as I get an internet connection over there….
