The new Urban Climber Photo Annual just dropped and I’m psyched to have my shot of Chris Sierzant rockin the cover! I shot this about a year ago during a long weekend trip to the South. In three days, we shot portraits for the cover of the UC Interview Issue, filmed the first ascent of the Ebola Project for MVM, shot photos of The Orb at Rocktown, Apes on Acid at Castle Rock, and some bouldering at Little Rock City (The Stone Fort).  Chris is always great to work with, as he puts in the extra effort needed to take the product to the next level. Puck up your copy of UC today!

To get this shot, we headed out to Little Rock City in Tennessee at about 6am to catch the early morning light. The sun was actually only lighting the tree in the background. I used two AB800’s to light Chris and the boulder, adding warming gels to balance the colors. I wanted to incorperate that colorful tree in the background, so I shot with a fisheye lens to bend the tree and frame the boulder. It’s always been cool to see my work on covers, but a photo annual cover has always been a goal. Its an issue all about what I do, photography. So having my shot represent the whole issue gets me psyched! I can’t wait to check out the rest of the issue!

Urban Climber has published the much talked about Chris Sierzant cover story on their new website. You can check it out HERE.

Right now, I am rocking the free internet at Denver International Airport. I am heading to Portillo, Chile for a week of skiing and shooting stock! Really psyched! Just trying to get a few things taken care of before I leave the country. I’ll definitely be sure to get some photos up here as soon as possible.

Next week, I will be heading from Chile straight to Salt Lake City for the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show. I attend this event twice a year and always look forward to it. Its a great place for me to reconnect with friends and clients I have made all over the country. This summer, I will also be shooting and directing the video production of a series of short highlight reels from the Mammut Bouldering Championship, all exclusively for Momentum Video Mag.

It seems that my recent cover shot of Chris Sierzant on Urban Climber Magazine has began quite a discussion over on Facebook. Check out Urban Climber Mag’s profile on Facebook to read the Note and comments. Some people love it, some people hate it! The fact that people are talking about it means it was a success. there are a lot of climbers out there that are scared of growth, progression, and changes in the sport. Everyone here at BS Productions is all about PROGRESSION! And to get anywhere, we must try new things that may not go over so smoothly. Props to UC for going for it!

I just got a copy of the new Urban Climber Magazine and I’m psyched to say that my photo of Chris Sierzant made it on the cover! The photo is from a story that Abbey Smith and I put together about Chris. He comes off as a tough, abrasive southern boy on the outside, but once you get to know Chris, his softer side begins to show through. This cover shot, my third with Urban Climber, is something I’ve been working on making happen for a few years now. I grew up climbing and training with Chris back in the south, so we’ve been good friends for a long time. We’ve traveled the world together, always talking about the progressive direction climbing needs to take. In my eye, Chris has always been a worthy subject for the mags, so we spent a lot of time shooting and tossing ideas around. We finally made it happen! The cover is bold, striking, and progressive. Way to go UC!
